Intervention 04 · For everyone

Move slowly. Recover faster.

For anyone who wants to reduce stress, recover better and have more energy left over. Qi Gong works with breath, slow movement and attention. It looks calm, yet you will feel it in your legs the next day. Book it as a single session, or as a recurring programme at the office that feels more like a gift than a prevention policy.

Challenges from practice

What you can bring to me.

  1. 01

Employees who are drained at the end of the day and already tired at the start of it

  2. 02

A lot of tension in the body: shoulders, neck, jaw, breathing that sits high in the chest

  3. 03

An organisation that wants to invest in prevention without heavy programmes

  4. 04

Behind a screen all day and unable to switch off in the evening

  5. 05

A need for a weekly moment together that isn't a meeting

  6. 06

Knowing that movement is good for you, while sport doesn't suit you or your team

Sound familiar? Then Qi Gong is a light intervention with a big effect in the long run.

What it is

Meditation, standing up.

Qi Gong is sometimes called Chinese yoga. It comes from Taoism and Buddhism and is closely related to Traditional Chinese Medicine and the martial arts.

Literally, it means working with life energy. In practice, it means slow movements, a breath that deepens and attention that stays with your body instead of your inbox. After a session of an hour and a half, you feel the difference. After three months of weekly practice, you notice it outside the session too.

I trained as an international Qi Gong teacher with Dao Heart and have been teaching for more than twenty years. To private clients, in their homes, and increasingly in-company: as a fixed weekly class, or as part of a vitality programme.

For organisations, it is an accessible way to do something about stress, recovery and vitality. An hour a week that people don't want to miss.

What it does

Slow, and precise

What Qi Gong does.

  1. 01

    Nervous system regulation

From being switched on all the time to being able to shift gears, with breath and slow movement as the way in.

  2. 02

    Breath and movement patterns

A breath that deepens by itself and movements that take less effort. You notice that behind your desk as well.

  3. 03

    Focus and stability

Literally standing more firmly. People who practise Qi Gong are less easily thrown off balance.

  4. 04

    Moving together

A group falls into a shared rhythm by itself. Teams that practise together every week treat each other differently.

How it runs

How a session runs.

This is how a session of one and a half to two hours runs. I tailor the exact forms and exercises to the group. A half day or full day follows the basic structure of the other day programmes and goes deeper into the background and the forms.

  1. 01

    Standing

We begin in a circle, standing still. Feet, knees, breath. This takes longer than you think and is already half the work.

  2. 02

    Opening

Simple movements to wake up the joints and the connective tissue.

  3. 03

    The form

A sequence of eight movements, the Ba Duan Jin. Slow, repetitive, moving with the breath.

  4. 04

    Stillness

Standing or seated meditation. Five to ten minutes. For most people, the hardest part.

  5. 05

    Closing

A short debrief. One movement to take home and practise every day.

What it brings

What you can do with it.

I make no medical promises. What I can say is this: in organisations, I see what it does. Calmer people, faster recovery, more positive energy.

  1. Stress reduction and relaxation

Slow movement and breath help the nervous system settle. Most people notice it after one session, and hold on to it by repeating.

  2. Recovery and vitality

If you recover better, you have energy left over. That is the simplest contribution I know to less absenteeism and more positive energy in a team.

  3. Body awareness

You notice sooner when tension is building and you know what to do about it. That is prevention in practice, without calling it that.

  4. Handling tension and pressure

Practise every week and you build up a buffer. A busy week hits less hard, and you find your way back to yourself sooner.

Honest up front
